Seven Steps: The Complete Columbia Recordings Of Miles Davis (1963-1964): This 7-CD box set (released in 2004) explores Miles’ slow and careful development of his so-called “second great quintet,” whose rhythm section comprised Herbie Hancock (piano), Ron Carter (bass), and Tony Williams (drums). Saxophonist George Coleman is heard on most of the music for the LPs Seven Steps To Heaven, Quiet Nights, Miles Davis In Europe, My Funny Valentine, and Four & More; and Sam Rivers joined for Miles In Tokyo. But it is not until the final CD’s Miles In Berlin that Wayne Shorter enters the picture and the classic quintet’s lineup was finalized.

Another excellent box set. Columbia does a stellar job in capturing what was happening during periods of time in the evolution of Mile's music. This particular set captures a relatively brief period of time. The written material which accompanies the set provides the historical backdrop to the music. I'm glad I didn't wait any longer to purchase the set. My hope as another reviewer wrote is to re-release some of the previously issued box sets which now cost an arm and a leg used. Would love to see the Cellar Door Sessions, Complete Plugged Nickle, On The Corner Sessions available for purchase again.

Beautiful Box Set, excellent typography and layout of the text & photos, and the minimalist design. This is another period of Miles I somehow have not explored very much. I like that we get the full concert that comprises Four & More and My Funny Valentine, then the concerts for Tokyo, Berlin and even more. I discovered the My Funny Valentine album a few years ago and loved it. I recommend grab this set while you can, and the others, you will NOT regret it. These are how box sets should be done and I wish they would release them all again, they should not be rare,
